Kentucky Derby 10th Dornoch recaptured the promising form shown as a juvenile with a shock victory in the Belmont. He held off the late challenge from the unexposed Mindframe and secured an upset at Saratoga where the winners of the other Triple Crown races didn’t fire.
A tardy start proved costly for the favorite Sierra Leone, who had too much ground to make up from the rear but got third. Belmont Stakes 2024 results have that front trio clear of the rest of the field. Honor Marie had another hard luck story with the Kentucky Derby sixth again squeezed out early, but keeping on into a never nearer fourth spot.
Todd Pletcher’s barn had the fifth and sixth in Antiquarian and Protective alongside the second. They were home in front of Preakness Stakes hero Seize The Grey and Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan. Here are the complete 2024 Belmont Stakes results and finishing order:

Peter Pan Stakes scorer Arcangelo completed a memorable Belmont Park double for trainer Jena Antonucci. Despite a marked step up in trip, he held the Florida Derby hero Forte and Blue Gras Stakes winner Tapit Trice for victory.

A turnabout on Kentucky Derby form happened in The Big Apple as Essential Quality beat Hot Rod Charlie with the two old rivals pulling well clear of Preakness hero Rombauer in the 2021 Belmont Stakes. Sent off favorite, Brad Cox’s Tapit colt brought home the bacon for powerful owner-breeders Godolphin.
The favorite on Belmont Stakes betting sites did the business. Todd Pletcher had three Belmont runners in the field and they filled three of the next four spots out of the show. Known Agenda ran best for the barn. Check out the results from the 2021 Belmont Stakes below:

The results from the Belmont Stakes over past ten years, tell us plenty about what to expect for the 2024 edition of the famous race.
During that period, only four of the ten favorites won. So, if you were continually bet the favorite each year, you would have lost money. On three occasions when a horse came to the Belmont with a chance of winning the Triple Crown, two of them won. That might be something to consider if a horse wins the other legs.
In seven of the ten races, it was won by a horse that was amongst the top three favorites. The biggest priced winner was Sir Winston at 12/1 in 2019, so there are bigger Belmont Stakes payouts occasionally.
There aren’t many conclusions we can draw from the post positions of the winner. Gate 2 won on two occasions, but every other winner had a different post position. It’s true that an outside draw produced more Belmont Stakes winners than those in center field or on the fence.
The results of the Belmont Stakes saw a surprise winner in 2023 in Arcangelo. The favorite Forte finished second, ahead of Tapit Trice, who was third in the betting.
The Belmont Stakes is a race that is only open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. This is also the case for the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Therefore, horses have a single chance to win the Belmont as they will only meet the age criteria once.
There have been 13 horses which have won the Triple Crown, of which the last-leg is the Belmont Stakes. They are Sir Barton (1919), Gallant Fox (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977), Affirmed (1978), American Pharoah (2015), and Justify (2018).
The 2024 Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday , June 8 at Saratoga Race Course, due to construction work taking place at Belmont Park. The results will be available once the race has finished. In 2023, the post time was 7:02pm ET.
Nobody is more clued up on past payouts, results and winners of the Belmont Stakes than stats man Dan. He has the history of this great race nailed down.
